The APEX MR-6051 UV 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System combines the benefits of RO filtration with ultraviolet disinfection, making it the most effective water purification system in its class. The MR-6051 uses five stages of water filtration plus a final UV disinfection stage to create pure, microbiologically safe drinking water. The filtration process starts by passing water through a 5-micron polypropylene prefilter cartridge. The prefilter cartridge captures particulate matter, like rust, silt and even insect parts, which find their way into the water supply. The prefilter also prevents the filtration systems from clogging with this fine debris. Next, the water flows through two 5-micron organic coconut shell activated carbon block cartridges. The porous carbon block cartridges remove taste and odors caused by chlorine and chloramine disinfection chemicals. Chlorinated water is a health hazard because the disinfection process can cause the formation of carcinogenic by-products called trihalomethanes (THMs). Even if you have unchlorinated well water, natural taste and odor causing substances (geosmin and MIB) can make the water undrinkable. Both well water and municipal water have been found to be contaminated with pharmaceuticals, herbicides, insecticides and industrial chemicals. All of these contaminants are removed by the activated carbon cartridges. The water is now ready for the reverse osmosis (RO) process. The water is passed through a spiral-wound thin film composite (TFC) membrane. Salts, dissolved solids, nitrate and heavy metals like cadmium and lead are removed while purified water passes through the membrane. The RO process even removes parasite cysts (Cryptosporidium and Giardia) that contaminate water and cause health problems.

The water then flows through a post-filter containing granular activated carbon. This polishing filter removes any traces of tastes, odors or gasses before the UV disinfection stage. The last stage disinfects the purified water by exposing it to ultraviolet light. UV light destroys the DNA of harmful microbes, like bacteria, cysts, viruses, mold and algae. UV disinfection is a safe water treatment method used in hospitals, water treatment facilities and beverage manufacturers to ensure that drinking water is always safe to consume. The APEX MR-6051 also includes a water storage tank and faucet. The APEX 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System automatically fills the storage tank (up to 50 gallons per day). The storage tank sends purified water to the designer faucet. Use your main sink faucet for unfiltered water for washing dishes, mopping and other cleaning tasks. The designer faucet provides only purified water for drinking, cooking, washing vegetables and pets.

The APEX 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System filtration system is pre-assembled and can be installed with simple hand tools. We recommend installation by a licensed plumber to insure adherence to all local codes. Routine replacement of the filter cartridges is recommended to maintain filter performance.
